"We can create a more sustainable, cleaner and safer world
by making wiser energy choices" - Robert Alan
What is Energy?
Energy is in everything that we do and is the fuel that is needed for anything to be able to work. Energy allows us to run, jump, play computer games and even send astronauts into space! The Sun is a form of energy - it makes plants grow. Our bodies gain energy from what we eat and drink, and cars use petrol for energy.
Energy comes in different forms:
- Heat (Thermal)
- Light (Radiant)
- Motion (Kinetic)
- Electrical
- Chemical
- Nuclear
- Gravitational

There are two types of energy: renewable and non-renewable. Renewable is energy from sources that are not depleted by their use. Non-renewable energy is from sources that we are using up and can't recreate.
Current Renewable Energy Sources
Renewable Energy
Renewable energy is energy obtained from natural and constant sustainable sources of energy occuring in the environment. These sources include: Solar energy (from the sun), Hydroelectricity (from water), Wind Power(from the wind), Geothermal energy (created by underground steam), and Biomass energy (landfill gases from rubbish tips).

Natural Gas
Non -Renewable Energy
We get most of our energy from non-renewable sources, which include the fossil fuels - oil, natural gas and coal. The reason why they are called fossil fuels is because they were formed millions and millions of years ago, by the action of the Earth's core and pressure from rock and soil on the remains of dead plants and creatures.

The Future of Energy...
Over the last 200 years, humans have been burning coal, oil and other fossil fuels to provide the energy we need to survive. As our global population increases, so does our need for energy. These non-renewable sources will run out in the near future, simply because the formation of fossil fuels can't keep up! We need to find energy sources that are clean, renewable and safe on the environment!
